The ICT Department
The ICT department has 5 dedicated ICT rooms all with interactive whiteboards and 24 pcs/laptops with Internet access. In addition to this the department has a range of digital cameras, video cameras, microphones, scanners and specialist printers. All pcs have Microsoft Office and a range of graphic and web authoring packages for design work.
In Years 7 & 8 students develop general skills in:
- Research
- Planning and Organising
- Communication
- Presenting Information
- Analysing Data
In Year 9 students are taught ICT discreetly and further develop their software skills applying them to a more thematic approach in preparation for GCSE work the following year.
At KS4 all students study the National First Certificate in ICT as part of their core curriculum. This is a project based course worth 1 GCSE. It includes one mandatory unit, “ICT Skills for Business” and one optional unit; Creating Animation, Graphics, Sound or Video. Students who progress quickly through the course have the opportunity to study a further module, also worth 1 GCSE, from a choice of various topics.
Students who have chosen ICT as an option will complete 6 modules gain 4 GCSEs.
All KS4 ICT courses are 100% coursework.
KS5 – Applied ICT is offered at As and A2 level both single and double award courses
