Admission To Year 7
The admission limit is 210 with an additional 5 places in the Speech and Language Unit (CDSL).
Where the number of applications for admission is greater than the published number, applications will be considered against the criteria set out below. The criteria will be applied in the order in which they are set out below:
- Children who are ‘looked after’ under provision of The Children Act 1989.
- Siblings at the Academy at the time of admission (siblings would include half, step, adoptive and foster siblings provided they also live at the same address as the applicant).
- Students in the defined catchment area: in the case of oversubscription, geography will be used as the breaker. Distance will be measured in a straight line from the child’s home to the entrance the Principal’s office with those living closest being given priority.
- For students who live outside the defined catchment area, priority will be given to those who live nearest to the Academy. Distance will be measured in a straight line from the child’s home to the entrance to the Principal’s office.
The Admission Forum or the local authority may require the Academy to admit exceptionally a child either outside the normal admission arrangements or in excess of the published admission limit.
The admission of pupils with a statement of special educational needs is dealt with by a separate procedure. Pupils for whom a statement of special educational needs has been made in which London Academy is named.
Admission to the CDSL is by relevant statement of special education needs.
Admission to Year 12
The following admission policy and oversubscription criteria apply to external candidates only and are provided as information for students currently at London Academy. Places on courses will be allocated to children who are ‘looked after’ under provision of The Children Act 1989 first and then students of London Academy.
The minimum entry requirements for internal and external applicants will be:
- For all Advanced Level courses the entry requirement will be a minimum of four GCSE grades A* - C
- For Level 2 courses the entry requirements will be an average of grade E at GCSE
- For Level 2 courses the entry requirements will be an average of grade G at GCSE
The admission limit for Year 12, subject to student course combination choices, will be 200 in 2009/10.
Oversubscription criteria
Priority will be given in the following order:
- Students who are looked after under the provision of the Children Act 1989
- Students who at the time of admission, have a sibling at the Academy (siblings would include half, step, adoptive and foster siblings provided they also live at the same address as the applicant)
- Students for whom places on appropriate courses are available
- Remaining places are offered on a geographical basis. Distance will be measured in a straight line from the child’s home to the entrance to the Principal’s office.
Admission to other year groups
Admission to London Academy at any other time during the school year e.g. moved to the area mid term, the same criteria will be used as published for Year 7.
