Official Grand Opening of London Academy’s Superb New Primary Building

Edgware, 9 November 2016: Today saw the official opening of London Academy’s multi- million pound state-of-the-art new primary building.

Members of the community, special guests, and supporters of the Academy shared this momentous occasion with Lord Nash, Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for Schools, the sponsor Peter Shalson and the Mayor of Barnet, Councillor David Longstaff.

Lord Nash officially opened the exceptional new facilities and delivered an inspirational speech to an audience of pupils, parents, staff from the Academy and its partner primary school, Deansbrook Primary, and members of the community.

The celebratory event began with a musical rendition from London Academy’s Choir and Year 1 pupils who impressed the audience with their beautiful singing voices. Uplifting performances from pupils of all ages, from 4-18, were showcased reflecting the talent and ability of the all-through academy.

The new spacious, modern and contemporary 2-storey primary building has been purpose built with extensive outdoor green space and soft and hard play areas leading directly from the individual large classrooms. In addition, the building has a multi-function main hall, state- of-the-art kitchen facilities, a library resource centre and space for a new nursery that will be run by a private provider.

Angela Trigg, Executive Principal of AIM Academies Trust said: “This long-held aspiration for London Academy to be an all-through school for our community has been realised today. There are so many people to thank for their commitment, expertise and time and we are delighted to welcome some of them here today to share in the joy that this new primary building has already given to our children. We are committed to ensuring that all our pupils contribute to the development and enrichment of the local, national and global community over many generations, fully living out our commitment to developing leaders for tomorrow.”
