Supporting our students to be Healthy inside and out

London Academy has developed a strong reputation for not only supporting students in their academic studies but also ensuring they have the right techniques and support to achieve their goals, deal with situations or issues that affect them or simply be a listening ear. Children today have a bewildering number of pressures on them and some have to deal with diagnosable mental health conditions.  Many more struggle with challenges from bullying to bereavement.

London Academy has worked incredibly closely with Place2Be for many years and seeks to provide the most appropriate support to their students. Place2Be work on-site at London Academy five days a week providing one to one counselling.  Children can self-refer but a wide range of other people and agencies often refer the child affected. 79% of all children who undertake the counselling report an improvement in their wellbeing.

Place2Talk, a support initiative of Place2Be, is another valuable resource to support students. This lunchtime service is a quiet place to talk and play during the busy school day and has a permanent presence at London Academy and is open to all pupils through self-referral. We have found this scheme helps children understand Place2Be and the role it plays, which helps to breakdown potential barriers to some students engaging in the scheme.  It has also allowed Place2Be to identify children who need more in-depth support. Over 400 children used this service at London Academy last year.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank all the staff and counsellors at Place2Be who work so hard to support our students and help them achieve their dreams.
