Careers

Our careers education

The comprehensive careers programme at London Academy includes:

– careers education sessions
– careers guidance activities (group work and individual interviews)
– information and research activities
–  work-related learning

In addition, specific careers lessons form part of the academy’s PSHE programme and subject curriculum.

How we deliver the programme

• The PSHE curriculum via specific form time lessons (12 lessons per year)
• Careers interviews with an independent careers advisor – all students have a careers interview during KS4 & KS5
• The annual London Academy Careers Fair hosting over 100 professional exhibitors from a wide range of sectors
• A dedicated UCAS mentor for all Year 12 & Year 13 students
• University visits as part of our LA7 commitment to students.

• Work experience opportunities for students in KS4 & KS5

How we measure impact

The success of our students in securing academic outcomes and their next destinations highlight the impact of our careers provision:

  • 98% of our Year 11 leavers enter further education or training
  • More than 90% of London Academy students choose to attend university, with more than 50% typically receiving offers from the leading Russell Group universities each year.
  • Increasing numbers are opting to pursue high-quality degree apprenticeships, entering professional career training straight after Sixth Form – in recent years they have entered leading companies in fields such as marketing, finance, consultancy, and engineering.

London Academy hass partnerships with the following organisations to support our careers guidance delivery: Access Inspiration, eClips, iCould, START, Careers Box, and The Careers People.

Skillsometer

Designed for those unsure of what careers jobs they may be interested in, Skillsometer is a quiz that enables pupils to think more clearly about their skills and interests. By reflecting on several statements (presented within six occupational categories: Artistic, Realistic, Investigative, Conventional, Enterprising, and Social), to categorise what they love, are not sure about, or dislike, this can be a helpful first step in identifying possible future jobs.

Once users complete the quiz, they’re offered a short list of job suggestions to best suit their particular skills and interests. Each job can then be explored through a description with information on pay and hours. For further information on the job, and to compare with other jobs, the user could then progress to the Careerometer.

Careerometer

Careerometer offers easy access to labour market information. Users can search for different careers and find out more about wages and projected growth within that industry. It’s a great way for students to explore potential careers.
